Every Broken Promise

I once looked at a picture that was taken during Hurricane Dorian and came to the realization that the world is flawed. I saw people on the roofs of houses as they didn't know where their family members were in the mass of destruction left by the hurricane. Families never reunited, never able to grasp each other again, and never able to say their last goodbyes. I never really thought about the seemingly endless pain of surviving when tragedy hits and what it would feel like to never have a home again. All of this because we’re not caring about the consequences of our actions, yet people still don’t believe the true form of it. When I read about teens talking about global issues, I have hope. For the first time I can see myself having a future, finally something to look forward to. I’ve been given broken promises my whole life about my future. What if I have no future? My future is just a dream that I pray to come true. My future is built on the foundation of a million lies and broken promises. I may never be able to see the world for what it once was, but as one made of plastic. But when I see people my age talking about things that adults are too afraid to realize, it gives me a voice. One that I know is worth fighting for.
I finally have an opinion that no one can take away from me. I may be young but I still matter, my voice still matters.
